The Dutch National newspaper, Dagblad Trouw, recently carried out a survey to test the effectiveness of 150 medical charities. SOK came joint 23rd, a fantastic result for our small foundation (compared to the Dutch Hart Foundation which came 20th).
The survey looked at three aspects:

* Transparency (accessibility, website, policy, annual reports etc.)
* Strategy (relationships with other charities and risk analysis)
* Activities (based on experience or knowledge, involvement of the target group)

Unfortunately the survey did not cover expenditure. If that aspect had been taken into account, we would have scored even better, since only a very small percentage of our income is used for administrative purposes.

The results of this study gives us some areas for improvement but more importantly, the confidence to assure our sponsors that their contribution is money well spent.
