November 2011

AIMS
The aim of our foundation, which was set up in 1997, is to offer financial and material support to the medical projects of the Mount Elgon Trust, Chepchoina, Kenya.
The locally founded trust is under the leadership of the Dutch doctor Bea Andersen-Schipper and its aim, supported by a comprehensive, is to significantly raise the living standards of the local population. The millenium development goals serve hereby as a guide.
Our sister foundation, Elimu Mount Elgon, with whom we work closely (see weblinks), focuses on the educational aspects of the Trust.
Over the years, SOK has attracted a growing group of donors from all over the Netherlands. It is governed by a committee comprised solely of volunteers, which means that almost all the funds received can be spent directly on the projects.

Project: Housebuild for the Andersen clinic staff
After the succesful conclusion of the clinic expansion project we have launched a new project for 2011.
The clinic, which opened in 2007, has been such a succes that the present staff is overstretched. We desperately need new staff, however we can only attract them if we can offer adequate housing close to the clinic. Rental housing is not available in the area, which means we will have to build the houses ourselves.
There is enough earth and a machine to make our own bricks. With these we will be able to to construct simple housing with the necessary facilities. Each plot will include its own ground for growing vegetables.
In total, 6 houses will be built at a cost of € 3000,00 each.
After the build, the project will be expanded with extra houses.
Wilde Ganzen in Hilversum has approved this project and has agreed to donate €0,55 for each euro donated.
We will be launching several campaigns to raise the funds needed. As usual we reckon on the support of our regular contributors. It's possible to donate on our website; please mention "Staff housing" when making your donation.
Thank you for your support! |
